Our Story:
Our Story We are defined by the things we love. We love Jiu Jitsu. We love MMA. We love helping people. Every day, we get to live our passions. Torres Jiu Jitsu officially opened in 2018, but the journey started long before that. Michael Torres first stepped onto the mats as a kid and instantly fell in love with martial arts. That passion followed him into the military, where he served as a combatives instructor, sharpening both his skill and his sense of purpose.
Across the world, in South Korea, Maggie was closing another chapter of her life, retiring from international rugby without knowing that something new was about to take its place. Jiu Jitsu would soon change the trajectory of her life, too. It was in Korea that they met. They trained together, built a shared love for the art, and a vision that would follow them home. When Michael transitioned out of the Army, he did what many people do, he found a stable job and tried to build a life around it. But it didn’t take long to realize something was missing. It wasn’t aligned with who he was or what he felt called to do. He knew Jiu-Jitsu had changed his life, and he wanted to use it to change the lives of others, especially fellow veterans. So he made a decision. He walked away from that path. Dedicated to the dream. Together, they took a leap.
With the support of a few close friends they started in a small, humble space with a simple mission: build something real and help people grow. They never looked back.
That small gym has grown into its third location, now over 5,000 square feet, but the mission has never changed:
To grow the love for Jiu Jitsu. To build a real, authentic community. To change lives, one person at a time. Dedication to the Dream.
